HISTORY
The Sherlock family have a history in the shipping industry going back to 1925 when Patrick Sherlock joined the LMS Railway company in Dublin. Thirteen years later he took up duty with the Irish and British Traffic Association. Membership of the association included C.I.E, British Rail, B&I, Belfast Steamship Company and Wexford Steamship Company.
He was appointed Secretary of the association in 1948 where he served until his retirement in 1973. Pat was a leading authority on matters relating to the cross-channel shipping industry and appeared as an expert witness on a number of occasions including the 1958 Government Freight Rates Tribunal.
Kevin Sherlock trained as a customs clerk with Kelly & Shields in 1968 before moving to Huet Brothers of Bachelors Walk where he managed the customs department. Kevin set up KS Shipping in 1976 and over the decades Kevin has developed enormous knowledge and experience around all of the issues that arise when clearing goods through customs.
From 1987 until 1992 Kevin served as chairman of the Irish Association of Customs Agents (ACA). The organisation was formed to represent customs agents at Government and European level in anticipation of the transition to free movement of goods and people that came into force in the early 90's. The organisation also liaised with Revenue throughout the ongoing automation of customs declarations. Kevin represented the ACA and served as vice president of CONFIAD, the European association representing customs brokers.
